We decided to create a unique 4×4 route which differs from others in its conception and extension. A 7-day, 6-night adventure (with the possibility of alternative arrangements prior agreement) passing through some of Andalusia’s most representative natural, scenic and cultural diversity, such as unique rock formations;El Torcal de Antequera, Los Desfiladeros de los Gaitanes (The Chorro Gorge), the Karst in Gypsum of Sorbas or lava flows in Cabo de Gata-Nijar. Distinction of landscape and / or biodiversity; mountainous areas, tropical coast, the high peaks of Sierra Nevada and a drastic change to the desert areas of Almeria’s Tabernas Desert and Cabo de Gata-Nijar with its spectacular beaches. And those recognized as Cultural Interest Sites, namely the Alpujarra of Granada and Cabo de Gata-Nijar.
The Network of Protected Natural Spaces of Andalusia encompasses the most representative ecosystems of Andalusia, covering 247 spaces with a total area of about 2.8 million hectares, of which 2.7 million are terrestrial (representing approximately 30.5% of the area of Andalusia) while the rest are marine. It therefore constitutes the largest network of protected spaces in the European Union in terms of both number and surface area.
This 4×4 route is not intended as a trial of 4×4 driving skills over difficult terrain, but rather as a way of seeing the landscape and experiencing nature more closely, from another perspective. Indeed, at times this is the only form of transport possible, as we have obtained special passage permits to protected areas where all other motor vehicles are banned.
